Funding application process

Participants should follow the three steps shown below when applying for PFP funding:

Step 1: Access the PFP application form

Consult the PFP funding opportunities to learn more about the project description and access the project-specific application form.

Step 2: Complete the PFP application form

Each project-specific PFP application form provides detailed instructions on how to complete each of the nine application steps illustrated below. To ensure your application is accepted by the CNSC for review by the Funding Review Committee, please ensure you meet the specific criteria detailed within the PFP Guide.

This graphic illustrates the 9 sections in the PFP application form.

Step 3: Submit the PFP application form

All forms must be submitted to the CNSC’s PFP Administrator. Prior to submitting your form, please review, sign and date it, and keep a copy for your records. There are three ways to submit your form: email, fax or mail. Please see the PFP Guide for submission requirements, date(s) of receipt, and contact information. If you encounter any problems, please contact the PFP administrator.

Service standards

  • Funding applicants will be informed of the outcome of the funding decision within 45 business days of the application closing date or, if there is no closing date, following receipt of a funding application.

The CNSC has developed Participant Funding Program (PFP) service standards to publicly state the level of performance that funding applicants can reasonably expect to encounter under normal circumstances. These external service standards for the PFP are published to demonstrate the CNSC's commitment to transparent management, accountability for results and citizen-focused service delivery.

Performance against these service standards will be tracked, and the results will be made available annually.

Service standards results from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023
Percentage of applicants informed of the outcome of the funding decision within 45 business days of the application closing date or, if there is no closing date, following receipt of an application
Target 100%
Result 82%*

*This year saw an unprecedented amount of funding being requested from the CNSC’s Participant Funding Program. Due to the complexity of the applications, the high amount of funding requested, and the capacity constraints of CNSC staff, a longer period was required to review some applications, resulting in delays beyond the 45-day business standard.
