Participant funding notice

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) is offering participant funding to assist members of the public, Aboriginal groups and other stakeholders to review Cameco Corporation’s (Cameco) Port Hope Conversion Facility licence renewal application and associated documents and participate in the Commission hearing process.

The CNSC will hold a public hearing on November 9 and 10, 2016, in Port Hope, ON, to consider an application from Cameco to renew, for a period of 10 years, its nuclear fuel facility operating licence for the Port Hope Conversion Facility, located in Port Hope, ON.

Participant funding up to $50,000 is being offered for the provision of new, distinctive and valuable information, through informed and topic-specific interventions.

To apply for participant funding, interested parties must fill out and return the Participant Funding Application Form. Certain terms and conditions apply. Submit the application form by:

The deadline to submit a participant funding application is Thursday, June 30, 2016. Please note that late or incomplete funding applications will not be considered.

A funding review committee, independent of the CNSC, will consider all applications for funding and make recommendations on the allocation of funds.

The CNSC regulates the use of nuclear energy and materials to protect health, safety, security and the environment; to implement Canada’s international commitments on the peaceful use of nuclear energy; and to disseminate objective scientific, technical and regulatory information to the public.
