Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission

Abstract:

A status update of the task group on hydrogen and combustible gases state-of-the-art report (SOAR) under the Working Group on Analysis and Management of Accidents (WGAMA) will be provided at the plenary meeting in Paris, France. The SOAR is expected to provide guidance for future research and developmental areas to address the remaining knowledge gaps in the accident management of hydrogen and combustible gases.

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission is the chair of the task group. The task group was created under the auspices of the Committee on the Safety of Nuclear Installations (CSNI) of the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA), and was sponsored by the WGAMA.

The presentation provides an overview of the first (kick–off) meeting of the WGAMA/Hydrogen SOAR task, which took place on April 12, 2019 at the IRSN offices in Fontenay-aux-Roses outside Paris, France. The update presents the organizations that are participating in writing the report, and the proposed contents of the report and associated timelines. Tentative team meetings were also proposed. The team’s work commenced in the last quarter of 2018 and is expected to be completed by June 2022.
